Softball Recap: Stamford Takes a Loss

Stamford dropped down to 6-4 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Darien Blue Wave, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, the Black Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Darien, they pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games.

For Darien's part, Vivian Knott made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Knott has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Claire Willing tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Emma Hamilton and Siena Gird did most of the damage at the plate: Hamilton went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Gird went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. That home run marked the first that Hamilton has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella McCarthy, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Stamford will square off against rival Staples at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Darien is set to face off against their familiar foe St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
