Football Recap: McQueen Lancers vs. Foothill Mustangs
There's no place like home for McQueen, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past the Foothill Mustangs, posting a 47-14 win at home. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 29th in Nevada, while the Mustangs are ranked 730th in California), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lorenzo Tabua had a dynamite game for McQueen, rushing for 144 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Nason Rodriguez was another key rusher, rushing for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Rodriguez wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: McQueen was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 298 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since was before the start of last season.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Tomas Norse, who picked up 154 receiving yards and a touchdown. Norse got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of78 yards. Another player making a difference was Izaiah Tua-Laird, who threw for 232 yards and two touchdowns on only 16 passes.
McQueen now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
McQueen will venture away from home to square off against Carson at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are at an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2014. As for Foothill, they will host Ponderosa at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
