Soccer Game Preview: New Caney vs. Willis

The New Caney Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Willis Wildkats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

New Caney came up short against Grand Oaks on Friday, falling 4-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Willis has been struggling as of late, and they have yet to win a game this season. They fell 3-1 to College Park on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Wildkats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 551st, while the Cavaliers are ranked 158th).

Willis' loss dropped their record down to 0-7-2. As for New Caney, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3-1.

New Caney came out on top in a nail-biter against Willis in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Caney since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
