Softball Recap: Ellinwood Now 11-3 over Last 14 Games

After losing to Ellis the last time they met, Ellinwood decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles blew past the Railroaders 16-6 on Tuesday. Considering the Eagles have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Bennett Jacobs was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. Jacobs was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played.

In other batting news, Kennedy Behnke and Shyria Quintana did most of the damage at the plate: Behnke went 4-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI, while Quintana went 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI. Those four hits gave Behnke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Makynna Bryant, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.

Ellinwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive games.

Ellinwood is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Ellis, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Ellinwood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Railroaders: the pair will be back at it again later today.
