Basketball Recap: Broken Arrow Beats Edmond Memorial for Their 12th Straight Win

With a playoff win on the line, Broken Arrow rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They strolled past the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 72-54. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 48-38 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Broken Arrow's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from McKenzie Mathurin, who shot 47% from the field to rack up 27 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Macy Marraccini, who shot 4-for-4 from deep and almost dropped a double-double with 16 points and nine boards.

Defeat or not, Edmond Memorial got some senior leadership from Avery Hjelmstad and Janiyah Williams. Hjelmstad posted 25 points, while Williams put up 19 points and five rebounds. Hjelmstad's afternoon made it 15 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points.

The win (which was Broken Arrow's 12th in a row) raised their record to 26-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points over those games. As for Edmond Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 24-5.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Broken Arrow Tigers challenge Putnam City North Panthers at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Broken Arrow will need to watch out since Putnam City North has now posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests. Edmond Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
