Basketball Game Preview: Goodrich Hornets vs. Brookeland Wildcats

The Goodrich Hornets will challenge the Brookeland Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Goodrich has struggled recently with 31 losses in a row, while Brookeland will arrive with three straight victories.

On Friday, Goodrich took a blow against Leggett, falling 89-24.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Brookeland on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Spurger out of the water with a 99-41 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 27 points or more this season.

Goodrich better keep an eye on Landon Smith. He was instrumental in Brookeland's win, going 18 of 25 on his way to 43 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. The contest was Smith's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Lundquist, who went 8 for 14 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

Brookeland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 23 consecutive games.

Brookeland has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 88.5 points per game. As for Goodrich, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.

Goodrich was taken down by Brookeland 105-34 in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Goodrich was down 60-16.
