Softball Recap: Polytech's Winning Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Polytech dropped their record down to 13-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins. They fell 5-1 to the Cape Henlopen Vikings. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Madison Frazier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Polytech saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaelynn Vogan, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

As for Cape Henlopen, the win keeps they at an undefeated 17-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season.

On Cape Henlopen's side, Abby Marsh was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Marsh has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Calciano, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games she's played. Hayden Hudson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Polytech will host Wilmington Charter at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Cape Henlopen, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Padua Academy at 4:15 p.m.
