Baseball Recap: Santa Teresa Beats Hozho Academy for Their Fourth Straight Win

Santa Teresa had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Hozho Academy Wolves with a sharp 17-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Desert Warriors, who have now won eight contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Gavin Garcia was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ardon Luna, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. He has been hot recently, having also posted three or more RBI the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jose Romo, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Santa Teresa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .458 or higher in four consecutive matchups.

Santa Teresa's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Hozho Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Teresa will challenge Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Hozho Academy, they will take on Shiprock at 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
