Baseball Recap: Macarthur Beats Spring for Their Second Straight Victory

MacArthur came out on top against Spring on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run first inning. The Generals' pitcher stepped up to hand the Lions an 11-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Generals.

Artemio Mata made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because MacArthur is 5-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise. Mata was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Adrian Castillo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Juan Vasquez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

MacArthur was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring only posted a batting average of .222.

MacArthur's record now sits at 12-10. As for Spring, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. MacArthur will host Westfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Generals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Spring, they will take on Dekaney at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
