Baseball Game Preview: Monrovia Wildcats vs. Temple City Rams

The Monrovia Wildcats will square off against the Temple City Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Monrovia has seven straight wins, Temple City has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Monrovia had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Marshall on Saturday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Barristers. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won seven matches by six runs or more so far this season.

David Lopez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Monrovia got a big performance out of Tristan Oandasan, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Oandasan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Julian Fernandez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Temple City suffered their biggest defeat since February 18th on Thursday. They lost 11-2 to San Marino.

Monrovia's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Temple City, their loss dropped their record down to 3-9-1.

Monrovia was able to grind out a solid victory over Temple City in their previous meeting back in March, winning 5-0. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
