Baseball Recap: Dallas County's Losing Streak Snapped at Nine Games

Dallas County had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against the Selma Saints on Thursday as they made off with a 15-5 win. The Hornets' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Devin Woods made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off one hit. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Patrick Rudolph, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three). Kelvin Furlow was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Dallas County's victory bumped their record up to 2-9. As for Selma, they are on a 20-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-12.

Coming up, Dallas County will square off against Billingsley at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Selma, they will welcome Hatch at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bobcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.43 runs per game on average), something the Saints will no doubt try to take advantage of.
