Football Game Preview: Crestwood Comets vs. Wyoming Valley West Spartans

The Crestwood Comets will head out to face off against the Wyoming Valley West Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Crestwood is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Wilkes-Barre on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Comets took a blow against the Wolfpack, falling 35-7. The Comets haven't had much luck with the Wolfpack recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West had to suffer through a 52-21 loss at the hands of Valley View. The Spartans were down 38-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Crestwood will have to keep a close watch on John Richards and Damien Eastman, a pair of players who had a big impact on Wyoming Valley West's prior game. Richards picked up 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Eastman threw for 190 yards and a pair of TDs. Richards showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 64 yards.

Wyoming Valley West's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Crestwood, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Friday's game might be decided in the trenches. Crestwood has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 186.2 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Wyoming Valley West, though, as they've been averaging only 77.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Everything came up roses for Crestwood against Wyoming Valley West in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 54-14 victory. In that contest, the Comets amassed a halftime lead of 27-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
