The Union Grove Broncos will face off against the Milton Red Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Union Grove will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
Union Grove took a 14-run loss the last time they faced off against Waterford, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Broncos narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Wolverines 5-3. The game marked the Broncos' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Kody Hage spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Killian Helt was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season. Tucker Katterhagen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milton). They blew past Fort Atkinson 9-2 on Thursday. The Red Hawks haven't had any issues with the Blackhawks recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Jack Spielmann, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlie Fitzke, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Milton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Union Grove pushed their record up to 3-4 with the victory, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Milton, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Union Grove took their win against Milton when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-2 score. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Red Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
