Football Recap: Yough Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Yough had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 21-14 win over the Brentwood Spartans on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cougars also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.

Aidan Shaffer was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 66 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Yough was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Yough didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Joey Bibby and Ryan Sarver. Another thorn in Brentwood's side was John R Gergely, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Coming up, Yough will square off against Charleroi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brentwood, they will take on South Allegheny at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
