Softball Recap: Mount Notre Dame Beats Troy for Their Eighth Straight Victory

Mount Notre Dame had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top against the Troy Trojans by a score of 5-1 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but Mount Notre Dame sure is getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

Audrey Gildea was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Gildea was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Maddie Robinson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Grace Pitzer, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Mount Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in four consecutive contests.

Mount Notre Dame pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Troy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 21-8 record this season.

Mount Notre Dame will challenge Centerville at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Mount Notre Dame's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Elks have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. Troy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
