Basketball Recap: North Brunswick Scorpions vs. West Brunswick Trojans
North Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-53 heartbreaker at the hands of the West Brunswick Trojans. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Scorpions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-47 back in January.
North Brunswick's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kane Jenrette, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 boards. Jack Baker was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, North Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Brunswick only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
K'Veon Griffin was his usual excellent self, going 9 of 20 on his way to 24 points in addition to five assists and three steals for West Brunswick. The matchup was Griffin's sixth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew McKenney, who posted 15 points and six steals.
North Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for West Brunswick, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Brunswick will square off against Laney at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laney is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.9 points per game this season. As for West Brunswick, they will challenge New Hanover at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hanover knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 21 contests -- so hopefully West Brunswick likes a good challenge.
