Softball Recap: Otsego's Loss Ends Eight-Game Winning Streak on the Road

Otsego dropped their record down to 9-2 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins on the road dating back to last season. They fell just short of the Maumee Panthers by a score of 2-1. The Knights were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Panthers' pitchers proved too tough.

As for Maumee, they pushed their record up to 8-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs.

For Maumee's part, Hannah Ruiz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Ruiz has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

Ruiz wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Autumn Gugger, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Coming up, Otsego will square off against Archbishop Hoban at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Maumee, they are taking a road trip to face off against Elyria Catholic at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
