Baseball Recap: Briarcrest Christian Has No Trouble Against St. Rita

Briarcrest Christian made up a huge gap compared to their last game against St. Rita, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Briarcrest Christian put the hurt on St. Rita with a sharp 16-2 win on Friday. That 14 run margin sets a new team best for the Saints this season.

Nathan Powers looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cole Photopulos was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clayton Speck, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Briarcrest Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Rita only posted a batting average of .111.

Briarcrest Christian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for St. Rita and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Briarcrest Christian will venture away from home to take on Tipton Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Rita, they will be taking part in a tournament against McCallie at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
