Basketball Recap: Lamar Silver Foxes vs. Latta Vikings
The Lamar Silver Foxes's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They received a tough blow as they fell 38-22 to Latta. Lamar has struggled against the Vikings recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Latta's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shawniza Bethea led the charge by scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Bethea has scored at least a third of Latta's points. Shiayre Jones was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Lamar has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Latta, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar will take on the Wild Gators at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Lake View will be looking to extend their current nine-game winning streak. Latta's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Trojans at 6:30 p.m. on February 5th.
