Baseball Recap: Varina Blue Devils vs. Hanover Hawks

Varina made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Hanover, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 6-4 on Monday. If the Blue Devils were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Hawks when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Luke Carnley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Carnley was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Braylon Hood was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Hanover, they will head out on the road to face off against Mechanicsville at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hawks 2.4, the Mustangs 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
