Softball Recap: Waverly Triumphs

Waverly came out on top against Dansville on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Warriors took their match against the Aggies 8-5. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Warriors also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

Nevaeh Larner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Waverly let Daniela Anzaldua and Thalia Hernandez run wild. Anzaldua went a perfect 4-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Hernandez went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those four hits gave Anzaldua a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Fernandez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Waverly and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Dansville, the loss snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-4 record.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Aggies beat Waverly by a score of 19-1 later that day.
