Brohm Garlove and Brady Butler were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Garlove pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Butler pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kentucky Country Day is 4-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. At bat, Garlove got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Butler got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave Butler a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kentucky Country Day let Carter Jones and Isaac Miller run wild. Jones got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Miller went 4-for-6 with three runs and two RBI. Kentucky Country Day is undefeated when Miller posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Ian Ladd was another key player, going 2-for-6 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Kentucky Country Day always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .574. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Holy Cross came out on top against Shawnee on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run first inning. The Cougars' pitcher stepped up to hand the Golden Eagles a 15-0 shutout.
Ace Foley made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Tyler Manning was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Mason Lanham, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three runs.
Holy Cross has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-14 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Kentucky Country Day, their record now sits at 8-6.
Kentucky Country Day's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Bearcats have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Holy Cross, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Kentucky Country Day continue to outrun the ball?
Kentucky Country Day might still be hurting after the 12-0 loss they got from Holy Cross in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Bearcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
