Football Game Preview: Appling County Pirates vs. Crisp County Cougars + Official Tickets

For the first time this season, Appling County will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They are taking a road trip to challenge the Crisp County Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Appling County proved they can win big back in September (they won by 60) and last Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Fitzgerald 15-14.

It was another big night for Jaiden Knight, who rushed for 209 yards and one TD while picking up 10.0 yards per carry.

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed nine in total. All those points came courtesy of Alan Ramirez: he added nine points with three field goals.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Crisp County, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in September. They blew past Tattnall County, posting a 35-3 victory. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Cougars just coasted through the last quarter.

Crisp County's win came from a few key players Appling County will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Hagan Slimp, who rushed for 69 yards and a pair of scores on only seven carries, and also threw for 101 yards on only nine passes. Derrell Brown was another key rusher, rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Crisp County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 369 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 169 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.

The win got Appling County back to even at 3-3. As for Crisp County, their record is now 2-5.

Appling County didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Crisp County in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 17-12 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
