Basketball Recap: Northridge Falls Despite Big Games from Ella Mohamed and Lily Scholl

Northridge suffered their closest loss since November 13, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Penn Kingsmen by a score of 31-29. The Raiders have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.

Northridge's loss came despite strong showings from Lily Scholl and Ella Mohamed. Scholl went 7 for 10 en route to 15 points, while Mohamed posted eight points and five rebounds. That was a full 51.7% of Northridge's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Northridge was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Penn only racked up one assist.

Penn found their leader in freshman Addison Hummel, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards. That's the most rebounds Hummel has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Little, who scored seven points.

Northridge's loss dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Penn, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northridge will venture away from home to face off against NorthWood at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday. Northridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59 points per game this season. As for Penn, they are taking a road trip to take on New Prairie at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Penn will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
