Soccer Game Preview: Lamar vs. Manitou Springs

The Lamar Thunder are taking a road trip to challenge the Manitou Springs Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Lamar sitting on three straight victories and Manitou Springs on six.

Manitou Springs better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Lamar's game on Thursday is any indication, that's when Lamar really gets things going. The Thunder never let Woodland Park get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. Josylynn Rodriguez was a massive factor in the win as she booted in three goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Manitou Springs got the win against Thomas MacLaren School on Tuesday by a conclusive 4-0. Manitou Springs' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three matchups.

Manitou Springs pushed their record up to 6-1-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three games. As for Lamar, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2-2.

Lamar might still be hurting after the 9-0 defeat they got from Manitou Springs when the teams last played back in June of 2021. Can the Thunder avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
