Baseball Recap: Grand Island Takes Down Ranked Lincoln Northeast

Grand Island faced Lincoln Northeast in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Islanders came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 7-4. The Islanders haven't had any issues with the Rockets recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Grand Island got a great performance from Gabe Ruiz as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave Ruiz a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Broxton Barrientos, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Gavin Haubold was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Grand Island always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Northeast only posted an OBP of .375.

Grand Island's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Lincoln Northeast, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-5.
