Baseball Recap: Westlake Find Success

Westlake had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 7-10 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They skirted past the Bingham Miners 3-1. This was payback for the Thunder, who suffered a 7-1 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Korbyn Sorensen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Westlake's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 4-2 (and 3-8 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Teegan Adams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Dawson Ferguson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Westlake hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

As for Bingham, their loss dropped their record down to 12-5. The contest marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.

On Bingham's side, they got a good showing from Dax Bradford, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Bradford has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Bingham saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Porter Larsen, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Larsen has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Bingham beat Westlake by a score of 6-0 on Wednesday.
