Softball Recap: Knappa Comes Up Short

Knappa had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 5-8 to make it four. They fell just short of the Nestucca Bobcats by a score of 14-13. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Nestucca, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. 14 seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

For Nestucca's part, they got a massive performance out of Natalie Blackburn, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave Blackburn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Knight, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Knappa will challenge Country Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Loggers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 9.7 runs per game this season. As for Nestucca, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vernonia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Loggers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.15 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of.
