Softball Preview: Pickens Blue Flame vs. Westside Rams
Pickens and Westside are an even 3-3 against one another since February of 2016, but likely not for long. The Pickens Blue Flame will head out on the road to face off against the Westside Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pickens is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Back in March, Pickens suffered a rough 16-5 defeat at the hands of Gaffney.
Meanwhile, Westside made easy work of Berea on Friday and carried off a 9-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Westside.
Jazelyn Robinson was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. Robinson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Robinson was even better at the plate, going 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, two triples, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Shelby Compton, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Bralyn Gilmer, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Pickens' loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Westside, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-8 record this season.
