It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Ferguson Falcons duke it out with Southwest Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Ferguson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Ferguson didn't have quite enough to beat TERRA Environmental and fell 7-6. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Justin Rodriguez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Davin Vigoa, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, Southwest came into Thursday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They blew past St. Brendan 7-1 on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by six runs or more this season.
Southwest also got a great performance from Pedro Martinez as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Martinez has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Max Rico was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Yuxnel Santiago was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Ferguson's loss dropped their record down to 3-5-1. As for Southwest, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ferguson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ferguson was able to grind out a solid win over Southwest in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 8-3. Does Ferguson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southwest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
