Baseball Game Preview: Clay Eagles vs. Springfield Blue Devils

For the second straight game, Clay will face off against Springfield. The Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 3.5 runs per game this season, so Springfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Clay is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Springfield on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Landon Eversman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Clay is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-2 otherwise. Eversman was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Brayden Toneff was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Alex Goetz, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield only posted an OBP of .290.

The victory got Clay back to even at 3-3. As for Springfield, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
