Basketball Game Preview: Waterbury Career Academy Spartans vs. Ansonia Chargers

The Waterbury Career Academy Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Ansonia Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Waterbury Career Academy will be strutting in after a win while Ansonia will be coming in after a defeat.

Waterbury Career Academy will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Kennedy, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. Waterbury Career Academy strolled past Kennedy with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 52-34.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waterbury Career Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sierra Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. Brown also grabbed eight steals, which is notable because Waterbury Career Academy is 2-1 when she posts at least three steals, but 5-8 otherwise. Malinna Figueroa was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

Waterbury Career Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Ansonia was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 61-55 to Seymour. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ansonia's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Waterbury Career Academy, their record is now 7-9.

Waterbury Career Academy opened the new year with a less-than-successful 48-41 defeat to Ansonia. Can Waterbury Career Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
