Football Recap: Wahoo Starts Season with Win at Home

Wahoo took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over the Nebraska City Pioneers. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Pioneers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Kip Brigham was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 145 yards and three touchdowns on only ten carries, and also caught one score. His longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Jase Kaminski was another key player, throwing for 63 yards and a pair of TDs.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Wahoo proved: they limited Nebraska City to a paltry 0.8 yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Brigham stood above the rest. He rushed for 145 yards and three scores on only ten carries, and also caught one touchdown. Wahoo didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 10.8.

Wahoo didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Tiger Bartek, Laine Peterson, and Calvin Babst picked up one apiece. Harrison Krueger was another major factor on D, making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Looking ahead, Wahoo will square off against Ashland-Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nebraska City, they will face off against Douglas County West at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
