Baseball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Johnson Warriors

Kennedy is a perfect 10-0 against Johnson since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Kennedy Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Johnson Warriors at 3:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Kennedy turned things around against Natomas on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Nighthawks with a sharp 11-5 win.

Sean Whitfield was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 3-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Johnson, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in February. Everything went their way against Sacramento on Monday as Johnson made off with a 19-9 victory. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Tony Hernandez was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of James Vallejo, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Johnson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.

Johnson's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Kennedy, their record now sits at 2-6.

Everything went Kennedy's way against Johnson in their previous meeting back in March of 2022, as Kennedy made off with a 14-4 victory. Will Kennedy repeat their success, or does Johnson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
