Basketball Recap: Ashland Takes a Loss

Ashland lost against Independence back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Ashland Blue Devils fell to the Independence Wildcats 57-53. The Blue Devils have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Independence got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JaBarri Newson out in front who posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave Newson a new career-high in points. Jax Wilson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Ashland's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Independence, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 14-9.

Ashland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 73-47 victory against Jumpertown on the 24th. As for Independence, they are taking a road trip to face off against Coahoma County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coahoma County will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Independence surely won't give up without a fight.
