Baseball Recap: Marian Catholic Takes a Loss

The Marian Catholic Spartans came up short against the Manteno Panthers on Friday and fell 12-7. The Spartans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jazarris Mackmore was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Marian Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 7-15 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Trotter, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Marian Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Manteno, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marian Catholic will square off against Saint Viator at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Manteno, they will face off against Coal City at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Coalers will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
