Softball Recap: Oxford Academy Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cerritos, Oxford Academy was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-8 margin over the Portola Bulldogs. Considering the Patriots have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Emily Ganguly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Kuhu Gupta was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Daniela Perez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Oxford Academy pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Portola, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-9-1.

Looking ahead, Oxford Academy will head out to take on Pioneer at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portola, they will welcome Rosary Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
