The West Field Longhorns will face off against the Cyprus Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Field is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
West Field is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Ridgeline, who was ranked 19th at the time (West Field was ranked ninth). The Longhorns were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Riverhawks on Friday. Considering the Longhorns have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brinklee Hadley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Clair Nessen and Ayzlee Sessions did most of the damage at the plate: Nessen went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Sessions went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that Nessen has launched this season. Ella Doxey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: West Field kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ridgeline only managed five hits.
Meanwhile, Cyprus posted their closest victory since March 8th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Tooele 7-6.
Breelyn ( Bree ) Garcia made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Garcia was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Adelaide ( Addie ) Winn was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Frankee Kelsch, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
West Field's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Cyprus, their win bumped their record up to 12-9.
