2A - North recap Oct. 3, 2012
Millard's Jesse Rhodes rumbled for the longest rushing play in 2A - North this season in his game against American Leadership Academy last week. Rhodes scampered for 99 yards on the play and finished with 251 on the day as his team bested the Eagles.
Manti extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating North Sevier, 42-20. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Millard's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Tanner Slavens threw for 78 and one touchdown and Jeffrey Robison had 73 yards receiving. Rhodes helped Millard's passing attack out by catching one ball for five yards.
Jeremy Aleman made the biggest impact on defense this week as Marshall sheriff's team bested American Leadership Academy. The senior grabbed one interception.
Manti's Connor Aste and Jamen Miller have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Aste has thrown for 704 yards this season, while Miller, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 11 catches for 300 yards. The Eagles' Rhodes leads the league in rushing yards with 1208.
Two of the top units in 2A - North will face off this week when Millard takes on the Wolves. The Eagles' offense has racked up 232 points this season, earning them the top spot in the league, while North Sevier has allowed only 299 on the year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Emery takes on South Summit. The Spartans are in fourth place, while the Wildcats are in third place.
Emery and Gunnison Valley played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Emery eventually emerging with a 28-25 victory.
