Preview: Crosspoint Warriors vs. Grace Academy Eagles
Crosspoint has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Crosspoint Warriors and the Grace Academy Eagles will round out the year against one another at 12:15 p.m. on Thursday at. Crosspoint has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 264 points over their last four matches.
Crosspoint has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 36 points or more this season. They blew past Klahowya, posting a 61-13 victory at home. With Crosspoint ahead 40-7 at the half, the match was all but over already.
Crosspoint's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riya Tobosa, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Tobosa hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. Lucy Wasson was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, Grace Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points), and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. Everything went their way against Providence Classical Christian as Grace Academy made off with a 44-20 win.
Grace Academy can attribute much of their success to Candice Mugo-Wainaina, who scored 16 points along with four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mugo-Wainaina has scored at least 25% of Grace Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorien Ashby, who scored 11 points.
Crosspoint's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.8 points per game. As for Grace Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
Thursday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Crosspoint have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Grace Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 20.3 rebounds per game.
