Football Recap: Khalen Matzke and Reed Raymond Secure Win for La Porte

La Porte had lost three straight, but after bumping their record up to 3-6 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They walked away with a 35-22 win over the Portage Indians. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Slicers' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Leading La Porte to victory were Reed Raymond and Khalen Matzke. Raymond gained 173 total yards and two touchdowns, while Matzke picked up 111 receiving yards and two scores. Those two receiving touchdowns gave Matzke a new career-high.

As for Portage, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Despite 164 more yards than La Porte, the Indians couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Despite the loss, Portage still got an impressive performance from Hunter Cole, who picked up 48 receiving yards and one touchdown, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Ogbonna Williamson was another key player, rushing for 67 yards and one score.

La Porte and Portage are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. After each having a week off, the Slicers and Chesterton will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 31st. As for Portage, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Penn at 6:30 p.m. on the 31st. The Indians will need to watch out since the Kingsmen have now posted at least 31 points in their last seven matchups.
