Basketball Recap: Legacy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Niwot last Tuesday, Legacy came back down to earth. The Legacy Lightning fell 47-38 to the Monarch Coyotes on Friday. The Lightning haven't had much luck with the Coyotes recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Legacy lost, don't look at Olivia Mortensen. Despite the final result, she dropped a triple-double with 27 points, 17 rebounds, and ten steals. That was a full 71.1% of Legacy's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Martin, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Legacy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Monarch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sienna Williams led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double with nine points, 17 boards, and ten assists. Williams has been hot for a while, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 26 times she's played. Ginger Milot was another key player, going 6 for 10 on her way to 16 points and four steals.

Legacy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Monarch, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Legacy will host Silver Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Legacy is facing Silver Creek at the right time seeing as Silver Creek is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Monarch, they will face off against Niwot at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
