Baseball Game Preview: Philip Simmons Iron Horses vs. St. John's Islanders

The Philip Simmons Iron Horses will take on the St. John's Islanders at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. John's took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Philip Simmons, who comes in off a win.

Last Friday, Philip Simmons made easy work of Woodland and carried off a 12-2 win. The Iron Horses have beaten the Wolverines the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolverines has come to flipping the script.

Nolan Clifford spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Charlie Helms was a standout: he scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Philip Simmons is 2-1 when Helms posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Daniel Ebeling, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, St. John's came up short against Lowcountry Wildcats Athletics on Thursday and fell 5-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Islanders in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost six in a row.

St. John's saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Antonio Hernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

St. John's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Philip Simmons, their victory bumped their record up to 2-4.
