Football Recap: Mountain Ridge Skates Past Box Elder with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Ridge). They breezed past the Box Elder Bees to the tune of 61-7 on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Sentinels with their most commanding win of the season.

Jaxon Hunt produced another solid effort throwing for 377 yards and five touchdowns while completing 73.1% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (154.6). Another player making a difference was Mckrae Renteria, who picked up 117 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Mountain Ridge didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cole Uluave and Caelin Castillo. Uluave has been hot, having also posted at least one defended passe the last five times he's played. Mountain Ridge got some further help from Cutler Whitaker: he picked up a sack, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass.

The victory (which was Mountain Ridge's third in a row) raised their record to 4-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 12.0 points on average over those games. As for Box Elder, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Ridge will head out to square off against Riverton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That match will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Hunt and Xander Thayer. As for Box Elder, they will take on Bonneville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bees will be up against the Lakers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 45 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
