Baseball Recap: Arroyo Grande Finds Playoff Glory Versus San Luis Obispo

With a playoff win on the line, Arroyo Grande rose to the challenge on Friday. They came out on top against the San Luis Obispo Tigers by a score of 6-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 two weeks ago.

Grady Pope looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Judah Hill and Jackson Ralph did most of the damage at the plate: Hill went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Ralph went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Arroyo Grande is 5-1 when Ralph posts two or more runs, but 8-14-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Plaza, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Arroyo Grande is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-15-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for San Luis Obispo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-13.

Coming up, Arroyo Grande will venture away from home to challenge Washington Union at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. San Luis Obispo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
