Recap: Grove Christian School Falcons vs. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights
The Grove Christian School Falcons fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Knights on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 30-28. Grove Christian School was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February.
Grove Christian School's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ana Roe Brown, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Hopkins, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Erin Maynes out in front who scored ten points along with three steals. Maynes is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played.
Grove Christian School's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-5.
Grove Christian School will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Gateway Christian at 4:30 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on St. Catherine's at 2:00 p.m. on December 28th. St. Catherine's presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot in Virginia (St. Catherine's is ranked 130th, while Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot is ranked 334th).
