Softball Game Preview: Calipatria Hornets vs. Borrego Springs Rams

The Calipatria Hornets will face off against the Borrego Springs Rams at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

On Wednesday, Calipatria came up short against Julian and fell 10-7. The Hornets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Borrego Springs was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 17-11 to Julian. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (ten), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Anavey Gonzalez and Lylamae Gutierrez did some serious damage despite the final result: Gonzalez got on base in four of her nine plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Gutierrez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Kayla Rodriguez, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Borrego Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Calipatria, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Everything went Calipatria's way against Borrego Springs in their previous matchup on April 8th, as Calipatria made off with an 18-5 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
