Recap: New Bern Bears vs. D.H. Conley Vikings
The New Bern Bears proved they can win big back in December of 2023 (they won by 22) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past D.H. Conley 55-53. Given New Bern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while D.H. Conley is ranked 345th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jussan Wiggins was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Cox, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
New Bern has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for D.H. Conley, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. New Bern will take on Northside - Jacksonville at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Northside - Jacksonville is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses. As for D.H. Conley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
