Softball Recap: Melbourne Comes Up Short

If Melbourne was feeling good fresh off their 15-0 takedown of Cave City last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Melbourne fell 3-0 to the Rogers Heritage War Eagles on Friday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Bearkatz were not able to get on the board.

Kallie Thornton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

Melbourne's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Rogers Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season.

Melbourne has already played their next contest, a 15-1 victory against Harrison on the 22nd. As for Rogers Heritage, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 6-4 win against Tuckerman on the 22nd.
