Softball Recap: Saint Viator Takes a Loss

Saint Viator blew Marian Catholic out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Saturday Marian Catholic got their revenge. The Lions fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-3. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 13-3.

Carley Heiden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maggie Ratzki made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Saint Viator has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 13 of their last 15 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-21 record this season. As for Marian Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-15.

Saint Viator wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 11-1 loss against Conant on the 23rd. As for Marian Catholic, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 win against De La Salle on the 22nd.
